Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone

Have you every had thoughts where you wish you'd done something different in your life but always seemed to find a million excuses as to why you shouldn't or couldn't do it? You aren't the only one. I've had a million things in my lifetime thus far that I wish I could have done or still wish to do and I have decided that before this year ends, I wanted to tackle some of these items off of my bucket list. I could sit around and wait for the right moment to do the things I want to do but I think I would be waiting forever because, when is it really the right moment? There is no "right moment." You should wake up every day and be eager to learn something new, start something new and/or accomplish something new.

This week, I started kickboxing. This is something that I never in a million years thought I would do because it was completely out of my comfort zone. However, it wasn't until I attended my first class that I realized just how much adrenaline kickboxing was giving me and just how much it was showing me about myself. I didn't realize I was strong enough to punch.... really. I kicked, I punched, I round-house kicked, I did burp-bees, squats, sit-ups, you know, exercises I wouldn't think to do on my own. I left that class in amazement of all my potential because I never thought I had it in me to do all that I had done in that one class. This idea of "not knowing" that I had what it took to do kickboxing, applies to so many different areas of my life and perhaps you could resonate with me.

For example, there were moments in my lifetime where I thought, I didn't have what it took to be a Chiropractor. That changed the moment I went on my first mission trip and was adjusting more than 50 people a day noticing the changes and ways I was impacting their lives. I thought I didn't have what it took to get accepted to a top university to complete graduate studies. That changed the moment I received my acceptance letter from NYU. What about the moment where I thought I didn't have what it took to be a good girlfriend for someone? That changed the moment that I realized I had done everything I could to be the best girlfriend possible in all of my past relationships however, it was the disconnection that I had with my past relationships that didn't work out because most times, the other person didn't see the worth, value or appreciation of who they had as a partner. In other words, it is our beliefs that limit us in pursuing what we want. It is the beliefs we keep rehearsing in our minds that we decide to give power to and have dictate our lives.

Until I became aware of this, it is when I decided to create a shift in my life. If you were to ask me now, do I have what it takes to do kickboxing, or be the best Chiropractor or be the best girlfriend and one day wife, the answer would be ABSOLUTELY! I am now able to see my worth, potential and strength in so many areas of my life for which I am proud of and this all started with a change in my beliefs and also in discovering what I love to do regardless if it consists of going out of my comfort zone. That is the best way to learn about yourself on a whole different level. Live to do the unknown. Live to experience the unknown. Live to tell the unknown. Life is too beautiful and too short to not do what you love. Decide to start fresh, new and do something that you never thought of doing in your lifetime!
